The Spirit of Springville

Artist: Dan Bryce
Location: Municipal Lot

Learn More About this Mural:

This mural is a colorful celebration depicting the spirit of our village, the spirit of creativity, and the spirits of the land. It is meant to honor the past, and reflect upon how nature, industry, and creativity can coexist as we work towards a vibrant and prosperous future.

In this mural we find a number of local references: a ghostly painter at work behind his easel inspired by Harold Olmsted, a Pop Warner football trophy, a model car of “The Thomas Flyer”, and some bottles that speak to the rumored history of Springville as a haven for bootleggers during the prohibition. Little blue figures with plants sprouting from their heads, represent the spirits of the Earth. They are playful, forgiving, and a little clumsy. Their goal, both then and now, is to help us create a legacy worth remembering!

The artist Dan Bryce grew up in Williamsville and has been a Springville resident since 2010. Dan is a professional illustrator, toy inventor, and the owner of Funderbolt Studies. He is excited to share his skills and brighten our community with this public art.
