Learn More About this Mural:
Springville Monsterity was designed through a traditional wood carving process. The design was then projected and installed on the building with assistance from The Public Art Corps led by SCA staff artist Alisia Glasier. The monsters appearing reflect different cultures, influenced by a variety of religions, mythicism, or folk tales. In some cultures, monsters are not scary but protective and they often are an expression of each civilization’s unique history.
SuDi Wang was born in Kunming, China, and now lives in Buffalo, NY. She was a resident artist at Western New York Book Art Center, as a part-time printmaking artist. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology and Visual art at SUNY Fredonia in 2021. SuDi’s artworks focus on monster creations influenced by different cultures, religions, and traditions that she grew up with. Her work also includes suminagashi, book art, and zine publications.
