Texture of Life by Gary Rinaldi is up from January 1st-February 1st in the Art’s Cafe gallery. A reception will be held at Art’s Cafe on January 17th from 6:30-8pm.
Psychedelic folk quartet emerging from several dimensions to present old time music filtered through decades of technological change and modulation. Fragments of folk songs become drone compositions and free form of expressions of what peoples music resembles in the 21st century. Composed of four musicians: Jim Price (upright bass, slide guitar, banjo, tape loops), Josh Barnes (keyboard, synth), Chris Mccune (percussion), and Ben Collier (guitar, banjo).
This exhibit will showcase artwork in a variety of mediums from our amazing community of arts supporters. Artists of all backgrounds and experience levels had the opportunity to exhibit their work at the Olmsted Gallery.

Starting at the beginning with “I am,” the Root Chakra, is our sense of trust and security. It is our most instinctive chakra, governing our survival instincts and our connectedness to our bodies as vehicles that navigate our world. Students will explore the root chakra by learning how incense is made, and grind root, resin and other gifts from the earth to craft their own one of a kind incense charged for at home use.
This drop-off creativity program for ages 2 through 5 takes the Reggio Emilia approach of “process over product.” Kids explore open-ended arts activities at their own pace, with the guidance of instructors. Painting, sculpture, loose parts, clay, puppet shows, instruments and more. The program will also include guest artists and walking field trips.

Discover the magic of transforming winter’s chill into wearable art! In this hands-on workshop, Mary Hermans of Nexus Botanical Arts will guide you through the process of using snow or ice as a dye medium, paired with natural plant-based pigments. You’ll create your own unique bandana to take home while learning the fundamentals of this truly cool technique. All materials provided.
Craft a couplet in a Valentine’s Day Card! Grab any two prewritten rhyming lines, and you have a couplet! All that’s left to do is to glue them on the inside of the card, and then to decorate the front, and you have the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for friends or family. Dan is also the owner of Funderbolt Studios Toy and Game Design, whose clients include major toy companies like Fisher Price and Mattel. A laidback workshop where you’ll get a chance to unleash your inner creativity by sculpting a piece of art from your own block of concrete and marble dust. Home Remedy is Lydia Garrison with Rosie Newton. They are a powerhouse duo fusing Old Time, Americana songwriter, and Cajun and Zydeco flavors. Both multi-instrumentalists and singers, they share an upbringing steeped in regional New York state thriving local music culture. In Home Remedy, Lydia and Rosie play fiddles, accordions, guitars, banjo and some percussion.

Speakers include: Ellen Owens, Adjunct Professor at Niagara University and Director of Castellani Museum; Heather Gring, Archivist of Rare Books at Buffalo + Erie Co Public Library, artist’s model; Biljana Petreska, Roycroft Artisan in Photography, artist specializing in alternative photography and female identity centered self-portraiture; and Tami Fuller, Executive Director for the Roycrofters-at-Large Association, weaver and fiber artist using traditional women’s textile work as a medium to explore the female experience.

Join Mary Hermans of Nexus Botanical Arts for a hands-on seed paper making workshop where you’ll transform recycled paper into beautiful, plantable creations. Learn how to blend, shape, and embed wildflower seeds into custom sheets, perfect for cards, gift tags, or planting in your garden. Attendees will leave with 3-5 sheets of handmade seed paper and DIY instructions to continue the craft at home.
Abigayle Oakley blends the melodic richness of folk pioneers with the lyrical honesty of today’s confessional singer-songwriters. She’ll be playing at Art’s Cafe on March 29th.
A visit with Ol’ Paint is sure to set your mind at ease and your toes tapping. Band members Neia, Phil, and Tom are all skilled musicians trained in a variety of instruments, including: guitar, banjo, ukulele, harmonica, and vocals. They’re known for their great stories, nice harmonies, and pleasant accompaniment.
Too Many Zooz will be in residence with SCA from April 2nd-5th. On April 5th, they will be performing at SGI High School at 7pm.

Gyotaku is the traditional Japanese method of printing fish, used by fishermen to record their catches. In this class, we will use latex molds of a variety of sea creatures and plants as our printing plates. With Janet Vedder.

A guided tour through Erie County’s Franklin Gulf Park’s scenic highlights as seen through the eyes of professional photographer David Reade. This excursion will feature gorgeous views, beautiful creek vistas with plentiful picturesque small waterfalls; and impressive old-growth trees.
This three-part painting workshop will set the groundwork for better paintings over time. Geared for intermediate students, the focus will be the planning and design steps that result in more masterful paintings. The lessons will emphasize where and how you put paint down, shapes used, values arranged, and colors selected. The aim will not be on a single wonderful painting but rather smaller size paintings that allow for easy corrections. Participants will select their own media and subject matter to work with. Jessica is a Buffalo-based artist whose focus lies predominantly on fairy tale, folklore and mythology. She works in pen and ink and watercolor and aims to keep the tradition of the Golden Age illustrators. Her works have appeared in several children’s books, and she regularly participates in local festivals.
“Get in the Car” originated in the Buffalo Writers’ Theater Annual Short Play Showcase in 2023, and is now making its way to SCA with a new cast. There are 8 plays total, each of them lasting 10 minutes and inspired by the phrase “Get in the car.” Many are comical while some deal with more serious topics. With playwrights: Karen McDonald, Neal Radice, Tj Snodgrass, Jennifer Tromble, Tim Joyce, Allison Fradkin, Jenn Dlugos, Charlie Hatton, Madison Sedlor, Matt Boyle, and Mike Fanelli.

This hike is a guided wilderness bushwhack through some of Allegany’s mostly unknown and seldom visited old growth forests, a couple of which are among the largest remaining intact ancient forests in the Northeast. Amble through enchanting landscapes where you’ll see some of the largest and tallest trees in the region, picturesque mossy-bouldered creeks featuring many small waterfalls, intriguing root formations and much more. These areas are unique and wondrous, a world left to it’s own devices, largely unaltered by man.
Learn the history of Bonsai, several popular styles of trees, and how to turn a hand selected nursery plant into a bonsai tree of your own. All of the supplies that you need to create your own bonsai including a hand selected nursery plant, bonsai pot, wire, soil, and pocket guide are included. With Trenton Lutes.
In this class, we’ll focus on “I Speak,” the Throat Chakra, associated with our authenticity and ability to speak and express ourselves clearly and truthfully. It’s associated with the color blue, so we’re going to weave our own intuitive sound waves and distress them with a dip in the indigo vat.

Join Janet Vedder to learn an Indonesian fabric dyeing technique called batik. To make a batik, selected areas of the design are blocked out by applying hot wax over them, a dye is applied on top, and the parts covered in wax resist the dye and remain the original colour. Students will create a few fabric pieces that they can use in a future project.

Cloth and Canvas: A Silk Painting and Canvas Collage Workshop by Ginny O’Brien.

Join artist Ginny O’Brien in a silk painting workshop and create a one of a kind silk scarf using paints that simulate dye, with an array of paint colors to choose from. Each participant will receive two 100% China Silk scarves measuring 14 inches by 72 inches and a canvas to paint on. Various silk painting and collage techniques will be demonstrated for use when creating your own work. Please register for this workshop as space is limited.
